Dear Anyone Who Wants To Hire Me As A Spanish Tutor,
If you call me at 8:00 PM on Saturday night to ask me to tutor your child, and then mention that their exam is on Wednesday, and that they’ve been having a really hard time all semester, and that they “had a bad teacher” last year, and so are basically asking me to catch your child up on a year and a half of Spanish in THREE DAYS, then don’t get pissy when I tell you that it’s impossible and that there’s nothing I can do.
BECAUSE THERE’S NOTHING I CAN DO.
Oh and also-the fact that I specifically told you that I wouldn’t lie to you and take your money for something I couldn’t do?
Yeah-you’re welcome.

You made her face reality, and it was not a pleasant one. Maybe she’ll thank you later, but either way you did the right thing.

Yeah, you’re right. I guess some people just really cannot deal with a “no”.

I love the title of this post – gimme some of what you’re smoking!!!
When my son was in school, chauferring him to and from tutoring was my full time job and a pleasure I might add because he had amazing tutors who did for him what I couldn’t do. I will always be grateful that these tutors were willing to put in the time with him and had the patience and skills to teach him what he needed to know.
It was the slow consistent tutoring that helped him in so many areas of life and parents like what you’re talking about are just dumbasses imho!

Thanks, Char. Some people just DO NOT get what all is involved in teaching and/or learning. It’s so wonderful when I get to work with parents like you 🙂
