My husband sent me the link to this cool map that divides up the United States according to how each region refers to soft drinks.
In the South, of course, the answer is “neither”, because down here everything related to soft drinks is referred to as, “getting a Coke”…as it should be.

I am a pop chick through and through. I *do not understand* the concept of “Coke” down south.
What if you want Diet Pepsi? What if you want a Sprite? Or Mountain Dew? Or Root Beer?
How do you identify anything that is not Coke?
Please, do tell.
Gregory says
See, the problem is, what if you just want a Coke?
You: I’ll have a Coke.
Server: What kind?
You: No, I just want a Coke.
Server: What kind of Coke would you like, Miss?
You: NO. Listen, I just want a regular Coke. Coke. Cola.
Server: WHAT KIND OF COKE WOULD YOU LIKE?! We have Coke or Pepsi!
Lynne Morrell says
Uh…sorry. Pop? No! Coke? No! Soda? Now your talking! And guess where I am from?
Northern California~

I suppose there’s the other eternal question: grinder, hero, sub, or porgie…?
I always thought the pop/soda division was across generations, not geography. Then again, I suppose there are backwaters of our country that are living a few decades in the past.
