My husband and I are enjoying our yearly trip to the beach. He is especially enjoying the opportunity to eat great seafood. I am not.
I was recently informed by a friend of mine that vacationing at the beach but not liking seafood is “just as big a waste as being a gay man at a women’s festival.”

As we were shopping for hats tonight in one of the many beach-wear stores on the island I heard what I am pretty sure is one of the signs of the apocalypse; namely, Santana’s “Black Magic Woman” as arranged for steel drums.

Why I Love My Husband So Much: Reason 3
While I l-o-v-e the beach and the ocean, I am a total wuss about actually going into the water, because I am afraid of being touched by scary sea-dwelling objects that I can’t see.
Instead of running away screaming, my totally awesome husband bought me some Aqua Socks-protective foot coverings that allow me to fully participate in the beach experience without actually touching any part of the ocean.

For some reason, whenever I am at the beach my naturally curly hair bypasses “frizzy” and vaults directly to “Medusa-like.”

You would love my brothers and I. We are the only people we know who can plan a fabulous vacation to the beach and across the board insist we need our own pool to swim. My older brother got bitten by a jelly fish when he was 8. We were duly traumatized!

Ah I am so jealous that you are at the beach. I miss the water so much…what in the hell am I doing here in Colorado? Anyway, I used to go body surfing almost daily when I lived in Santa Barbara…as I would swoosh along letting the waves carry me…sometimes I would feel something….I am not sure what it was brushing against my leg…sorta made me feel safe! The ocean is a big place and I am glad that there are little critters in there! Different perspectives..eh?

I am a wuss too and hate it when things go slithering or skittering across my feet. Rock on with the Medusa hair, GF!

Sad but true, if a song is popular enough or old enough, it WILL be translated into weird music forms it was never meant to be in. Steel drums is pretty low though, even for a Santana song.
Are those shark bite proof aqua socks?

I am intrigued with your beach water phobia. You may be interested in story of Bethany Hamilton. She’s a teen who returned to international surfing competition and earned acclaim after losing her arm during a shark attack. She even coaches other one armed surfers and ocean distance swimmers. That’s a true inspiration to help overcome phobia!

I myself have never been a fan of the beach, somehow the waves just makes my head dizzy. I must be one of the odd people 🙂
