I really enjoy working with high school students, because they help keep me current on many things such as language.
I was recently tutoring one student, and in between Spanish exercises she was telling me stories about her various friends and how they’d “hooked up” with members of the opposite sex.
I had a vague idea of what that term meant when I was a teenager, but I wasn’t sure exactly what it covered these days, so I asked my student to clarify it for me.
She said, “Well it doesn’t mean having sex, but it means you do everything up to right before getting ready to have sex. At least that’s what is means if you’re a teenager. I don’t know what it means to old people.”

ahh kids… they rule don’t they? at my last visit with my kids, my son noticed i had a couple extra pounds on due to not being able to run from a torn muscle in my back and he told me i need to go run.

Oh Jenny Ryan, initially I was like, yeah, in college we “hooked up.” I still got it! I’m breathing down 40 and I am one hip chick.
Then she explained it and I thought: Um, in college it meant you went on a date and spent some time kissing. No more, no less.
Side note: Did your kid ever watch the cartoon Oswald on Nick Jr.? The Wonder Years kid is the voice of Oswald a blue octopus and he has a neighbor named Henry, a penguin who is totally OCD. Henry’s voice is provided by Squiggy, from Laverne & Shirley.
Anyway, I really identify with Henry and he always ends his OCD rant with, “No more, no less.” And I just wondered if other parents out there enjoyed Henry. Like I do.
Okay, this comment is flying wildly out of control, so I will just chant your name since I’ve told you over and over I love your first and last name together.
That is why I must refer to you as Jenny Ryan. No more, no less.

Well…when I was a kid…I am in my 40’s (gulp) “hooked up” meant that we had weed! Ahhhhhh how times have changed!
